MODALITIES
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
A psychotherapy approach developed to assist individuals in processing traumatic experiences, by alleviating the distressing symptoms. Particularly used for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
During EMDR, the individual recalls the distressing memory, including the thoughts, emotions, and sensations associated with it. By engaging simultaneously in bilateral stimulation, the individual processes and integrates the memory in a more adaptive way.
The goal of EMDR is to desensitize the traumatic memory, and reduce the emotional impact of the memory; reducing flashbacks, nightmares and anxiety.
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
CPT is a psychotherapy approach, designed to assist individuals in changing their cognitions (or thoughts) towards themselves, people and the world.
A 12 session protocol, the therapists guides the individual in identifying their thoughts surrounding the trauma. The individual learns to challenge their thoughts and gain a new perspective.
CPT leans heavy on work completed outside of the therapy sessions, to integrate new skills into the individuals daily life.

Coming Soon!
A group process used to respond and support individuals after a traumatic incident. Facilitated but often peer-led conversations with those who were involved in the traumatic event. Choice, control and connection are at the heart of healing after a traumatic event.
Traumatic events include hurricane, unexpected death in the community, house fire, domestic violence, or major car accident.
A CID focuses on psychoeduation, normalizing responses to traumatic experiences, promote healing, and provide resources for ongoing support.
CID is used shortly after an event (with 1 day to 2 weeks,) and often a one-time meeting. CID is not a stand-alone intervention, however a way for communities and organizations to support each other during difficult times.
